With the advent of the internet, thousands of career development websites have sprung up to also assist you with your career decisions. Below is a list of some of them:

  • Wall Street Journal's Career Journal - provides excellent advice on managing and developing your career, with links to hundreds of employers, salary calculators, hiring statistics and more.
  • Career Builder - huge site that covers just about everything.
  • OneStop - federally funded, tied in with local OneStop Career Centers.
  • Hotjobs.com - huge site that covers just about everything.
  • Monster.com - huge site that covers just about everything.
  • Craigslist - huge site that covers just about everything.
  • U.S. Federal Civil Service - over 20,000 job postings that are searchable by agency or job description.
  • Career Voyages - descriptions and links for numerous career paths. Try their "Career Compass" to match your interests with careers.
  • US Bureau of Labor Statistics - provides information on many career choices, salaries, safety, demographics, benefits and much more.
  • My Life Coach - ($24.95) online version of the Strong Interest Inventory (SII), the international standard for career planning. You fill out a survey and they match your interests with appropriate careers.
  • Personality Desk - ($ various prices) offers an online version of the SII, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and other tools.
  • CPP, Inc. - ($ various prices) tests and career exploration tools including the SII, MBTI and others.
  • Salary.com and Salary Expert - both give you statistics on salaries, searchable by Zip Code, occupation and others. Free basic report but you must pay if you want a report customized to your personal situation.
  • Riley Guide - great information portal for any career seeker.
  • Internet Public Library - List of professional, humanitarian, non-Profit and other prominent associations and organizations.
